From the 2009 Catholic Lobby Day:
An estimated 650 people from around the state took part in the annual Catholic Lobby Day on April 28. Delegations from every arch/diocese in the state were present. After the morning briefings and a celebration of the Eucharist, the 650 people marched to the Capitol behind banners carried by High Schools students learning about advocacy. Despite a brisk Sacramento welcome, they took part in a noon time rally before visiting their state lawmakers.
Catholics asked legislators and their staff to support newborn life by extending the safe surrender time limit, reform youth sentencing, simplify food stamp certification and protect the poor in the complex California budget. The background materials are still available on the Catholic Lobby Day page.

Several pages of photos illustrating the spirit and power of the annual event are available here. Many have been submitted by participants and we invite your submissions.

From every archdiocese and diocese in California - in cars, on buses, and via airliner - as many as 700 Catholics are expected to visit Sacramento for Catholic Lobby Day 2009. Learning and worshiping together in the morning, they will spend the afternoon visiting lawmakers and promoting life, care for the poor, compassion for youth offenders, and other issues locally selected.
Many of the arch/dioceses have held training sessions before trekking to Sacramento. Participants have studied the issues and are prepared to bring the lessons of Catholic social teaching to their lawmakers. (For complete information on the major issues covered during the day, click here.)
