For Incarcerated Youth, a ‘Door of Mercy’ Opens

January 26, 2016

Archdiocese of Los Angeles Archbishop Jose Gomez gave a special blessing, opened the Door of Mercy and celebrated Mass with youth at the Barry J. Nidorf Juvenile Hall in Sylmar, California, on Sunday, January 24, 2016. Pope Francis recently answered a letter sent by one of the inmates at the facility. The letter was shared with Archbishop Gomez during his visit.

In the letter Pope Francis invited the incarcerated youth to share in the “Extraordinary Jubilee of Mercy” this year. This is a period of grace and forgiveness, in which the pardon of sins would be granted to those seeking forgiveness through penance and confession, pilgrimages to churches and forgiving oneself and others.
