Sister Maryann Cantlon

Maryann Cantlon is a Sister of St. Joseph of Chambery, an international congregation, whose Provincial Office for North America is located in Hartford, CT. Maryann has served in different ministries over the years: she taught music in a high school for ten years; worked as a teacher and chaplain in a Connecticut state prison for twenty-two years; as chaplain in the federal prison in Miami for five years and as chaplain in the Salinas Valley State Prison in Soledad, CA for five years. Along with another CSJ and two volunteers, Maryann began an educational mission among the indigenous Maya Indians in Quintana Roo, Mexico, working with them for two years.

Maryann holds a Master’s degree in Music from the Hartt College of Music of the University of Hartford and a Master’s degree in Theological Studies from the Jesuit School of Theology in Berkeley, CA with a concentration in Sacred Scripture. She is presently Associate Director of Restorative Justice for the Diocese of San Jose and has been in this position for eight years..
