RE Congress was extra special this year!
Bishop O'Connell celebrated the first restorative justice themed mass on Friday, March 16. It was themed, Restorative Justice: An Act of Mercy. DRJDs Deacons John Storm and Warren Hoy assisted. Over 2,500 people attended and heard Bishop O'Connell's wonderful homily that focused on what is truly important in life - love and compassion. Marty Haugen and Daniel Delgado and the band who provided the awesome music, including, "Teach Us Your Mercy", a piece created especially for this Mass.
A special thanks to our very own Diocesan Restorative Justice Director, Marciano Avila (San Bernardino), who prepared the worship aid and arranged for the powerful "voices of restorative justice" to be heard at the beginning of the mass and to Diocesan Restorative Justice Director, Deacon Fred LaPuzza (Orange), who assisted him. Thanks to Chaplain Steve Gomez who helped in placing the Restorative Justice pledge card on each of the 2,500 chairs.
Thanks to Bishop's shout out to our Chaplaincy Recruiting booth #248, we were extra busy on Saturday!
Last but not least, thanks to all of the chaplains who worked at booth # 248 - Edwin Perada, Jerry Fay, Sam Smolinsky, Joe Lubatti, Steve Gomez, Fr. Manny Sundaram, Deacon Miguel Enriquez, Noelani Sheckler-Smith, Deacon John Storm and Deacon Fidel Carillo.
Religious Ed Congress was a tremendous gift and we can't wait for next year!
