Mayor Pauline Cutter to Proclaim “Day of Healing” for City of San Leandro

"Grief is crippling, walking helps ease the pain," says Lorrain Taylor, founder of 1,000 Mothers to Prevent Violence. Taylor started the organization after losing her 22-year old twins sons to a drive-by shooting in Oakland in 2000.

On the Saturday before Mothers Day, hundreds of grieving mothers and other family and friends will take part in a 3k walk for healing. San Leandro Mayor Pauline Cutter will welcome families and friends of homicide victims during the opening ceremony and present a Proclamation declaring May 13th “Mourning Mothers’ Day of Healing” for the City of San Leandro.

The program will include testimonials from victim-survivors, live entertainment by Juan Escovedo & FLO. Also performing:  Grammy Award winner, Tony Lindsay formerly of Santana, Bill Ortiz (Santana) and Richard Beans. There will be Free Blood Pressure Screening, food, give-aways, information and referrals.  Individual Grief Counseling will be available upon request.
1,000 Mothers to Prevent Violence is a 501(c) 3 dedicated to alleviating the detrimental impact of violence through direct, practical and compassionate outreach services to victim-survivor families in the San Francisco Bay Area.
