Pen Pals bring Thanksgiving Joy to San Francisco County Jails

November 21, 2017

The Restorative Justice Ministry from the Archdiocese of San Francisco and in collaboration with the San Francisco County Sheriff's Department Religious Program coordinated Thanksgiving Catholic Services and Lunch at the County Jails in San Francisco.

Thanks to the Pen Pal Jr. Catholic Students program, each inmate received a Holiday Card along with a Thanksgiving Lunch. These cards and meals were delivered to the Women's Re-Entry Pod in the County Jail which currently serves over 60 inmates. The Men's Re-Entry Pod was also apart of the festivies. Over 60 inmates in the Mens pod were joined by Most Reverend Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone in a service and lunch.

An anonymous donor provided the Thanksgiving Lunch for our brothers and sisters incarcerated.

The Restorative Justice Ministry has been coordinating the Holiday Cards Drive in the past. Last year during Christmas, they were able to provided over 600 cards for inmates at the San Francisco County Jail. This year, they are in need of more than 1,200 cards! You can help them by sending your donation or your Christmas Cards to their office:

Attention: Restorative Justice Ministry – 2017 Christmas Cards Drive
1 Peter Yorke Way, San Francisco, CA 94109

The deadline to receive the Christmas Cards is December 12, 2017 as we need time for distribution inside the jails. The San Francisco Sheriff Department Religious Program will help coordinate the distribution of the Christmas Cards.

Thank you all for your kind Christmas Cards and monetary donations. A special thanks and blessing to our anonymous donor who provided the Thanksgiving lunch for our brothers and sisters incarcerated!
